Measuring Prejudice: The Allport Scale

Measuring Prejudice: The Allport Scale

Prejudice and violence against people of a different ethnicity, religion or gender based on whatever stereotypes can exist anywhere. It can manifest in different ways and is not confined to a certain historical moment or place. With the help of the Allport Scale developed by psychologist Gordon Allport in 1954, Confronting Memories' newset educational tool - a short animation - shows how prejudice can be measured and how activity on one level can make transition to another more intense level easier.

'Measuring Prejudice: The Allport Scale' can be used as an educational material in history classes and learning activities by history teachers and educators combined with a follow up discussion and reflection among students. The scale can also be found in our learning material about a visit to a concentration/extermination camp.

The animation film was made in cooperation with EuroClio – European Association of History Education and the Confronting Memories programme of the Civil Society Forum e.V.
